Specialist Biography
Dr. Gao Jing Ong is an interventional cardiologist and clinical pharmacologist, with expertise in ischaemic heart disease and complex coronary interventions. After obtaining his medical degree from the University of Otago, New Zealand, in 2010, Dr. Ong pursued advanced training in Cardiology and Clinical Pharmacology at Queen Elizabeth and Royal Adelaide Hospitals in Adelaide. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians in 2018.
Following this, Dr. Ong completed a specialized structural and coronary interventional fellowship at Royal Adelaide Hospital, and further refined his skills in complex coronary interventions and CTO PCI during a fellowship at St George’s Hospital in London, under the mentorship of Professor James Spratt. He then returned to Adelaide, where he continues to advance his expertise. Currently, Dr Ong holds appointments at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospitals, and has admitting rights to Calvary Adelaide Hospital.
Dr. Ong’s commitment to cardiology extends beyond patient care. He completed his PhD on Takotsubo Syndrome at the University of Adelaide in 2022 and remains actively involved in research in this field. He has authored numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and contributed to cardiology textbooks, reflecting his dedication to advancing medical knowledge.
In addition to his clinical and research pursuits in the field of Cardiology, Dr. Ong is also passionate about clinical pharmacology and improving patient care through the optimal use of medications. His dual expertise allows him to offer a comprehensive and holistic approach to patient management.
Outside of his professional endeavours, Dr. Ong enjoys spending time with his family and engaging in hobbies such as golf. Originally from Penang, Malaysia, he is fluent in English, Mandarin, and Hokkien (Chinese dialect).

Specialist Biography
Ivan studied medicine at the University of Adelaide, graduating in 1990. He trained in cardiology at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Green Lane Hospital in New Zealand before commencing consultant cardiology practice in 1999.
He works at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, as well as private practice in Wakefield, Calvary North Adelaide, and St Andrews Hospitals. He has a wide range of interests within cardiology including heart failure, arrhythmia and hypertension management, coronary stenting and cardiac pacing.
He is a keen photographer, mountain biker and budding motorcyclist.

Specialist Biography
Dr Mithun Varghese is a fellowship trained cardiologist specializing in interventional cardiology. His special interests include all aspects of coronary intervention especially the use of intra-coronary imaging to achieve precise results during angioplasty.
A true believer of the idea ‘prevention is better than cure’, he is passionate about helping patients in preventing the complications of heart diseases. Mithun has a public appointment as consultant Interventional Cardiologist at the LyeII McEwin hospital. He also provides private consultation services at multiple locations in the northern suburbs of Adelaide and at Gawler.
In a concurrent academic role, he also serves as a clinical lecturer with the University of Adelaide. Mithun did his basic physician training and cardiology training at lop-ranked medical institutions in India. Following the initial training, he moved to the United Slates and did an integrated coronary and structural interventional cardiology fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. There he was trained in the department under the leadership of the legendary Professor of Cardiology and Medicine, Dr Valentine Fuster. Mount Sinai prides itself as having the busiest and the safest cath lab in the whole of United States, and the training there set the lone for Mithun’s career.
After completing his training in the US, Mithun relocated to Adelaide and worked towards specialist college assessment and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP). He also served as the Professor of Cardiology at the highly ranked, Christian Medical College, Vellore in India before taking up a permanent clinical position at LyeII McEwin Hospital. European Society of Cardiology recognized Mithun’s experience as a clinician and researcher and bestowed him the Fellowship of European Society of Cardiology (FESC) in 2015.
Mithun is married and has two daughters. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, swimming and is a passionate technophile.
Mithun aims to provide his patients with a comprehensive assessment and treatment plan. He believes that clinical and procedural excellence can only be achieved through evidence-based and patient focused care.
